This weeks Seedstockers blog comes from some North African cannabis farmers that wanted to upgrade from local poor quality cannabis seeds to higher quality ‘European Quality’ cannabis seeds.
The main reason for switching from traditional Moroccan cannabis seeds is for the improved seed quality, better yields and higher THC levels. Many of the locally sourced seeds produce low potency cannabis and for that reason much of the cannabis grown in North African countries such as Morocco is historically converted into higher potency hash. Hash is also easier for the farmers to export. The reason Moroccan cannabis farmers are upgrading to European cannabis genetics is simply to improve quality levels so that they can maintain, and even improve, prices and yields.
One of our heaviest yielding auto varieties, BCN Critical Autoflower is also a powerful smoke with THC levels of
22%+. These legendary genetics are reliable and consistently heavy producers of strong cannabis, its a proven
auto that you can trust to deliver. Indoors this variety takes around 75 days from seed to harvest and does well
with 20 or 24 hours of daily light. The buds are bigger than usual with a sticky frosty coating and an aromatic
smell, with hints of citrus. Very easy and uncomplicated to grow, with heavy harvests and an unbeatable smoke.

In this weeks blog, some Moroccan cannabis farmers tried growing European autoflower seeds for the first time, BCN Critical XXL Autoflower.
Usually they grow low quality regular seeds left over from last years crop. The genetics are generally old, dusty and low THC. The weed is low/medium potency and therefore hash production is quite common. But cannabis buds, so long as they are good quality, are very popular all across North Africa where many use cannabis in line with local traditions.
Cannabis is also a popular and low cost medicine for many that can’t afford to visit pharmacies. North African cannabis farmers have lost many of the export markets as places like Spain have become much more sophisticated with higher quality levels. Standards are so high in places like the Barcelona Cannabis Clubs that low quality cannabis remains permanently unsellable.
The new breed of North African farmer has abandoned cheap local regular cannabis seed and buys better quality seeds from Europe.
In this weeks blog, the farmers bought Seedstockers most popular (and cheapest) autoflower seed, BCN Critical XXL Autoflower. The prices are low because she is produced in bulk. She takes around 100 days to grow outdoors (about 75 days indoors) and this fast growth is particularly useful for cannabis farmers.
A crop planted outdoors in April/May will be ready in July/August. This is much faster than growing feminized photoperiod seeds, which are usually harvested around October. For all outdoor cannabis farmers, one of the biggest dangers are thieves that turn up and steal the crop a few days before harvest in September/October. So far, few of them realise autoflowering cannabis can be harvested in mid summer. Autoflowering cannabis is felt to be safer to grow because it stays low (often 1m tall or below) and they are harvested early.
Getting the maximum the number of seeds to germinate is an important first stage to the grow. When bought in bulk, BCN Critical XXL Autoflower seeds cost around €1 each.
The seeds are always germinated indoors using good quality soil with someone responsible for germination. Many outdoor growers keep the seedlings indoors for a week or two under artificial lighting while they are small and vulnerable to birds, snails or bad weather. Fluorescent lighting is often used for this stage of growth.
The biggest challenge for outdoor cannabis growers in Morocco is the low quality natural soil in many areas and the lack of water. Both these obstacles are easy to over come. The farmers use a machine to drill a hole around 40cm in diameter for each seedling. The natural soil is often sandy and low quality, so good quality compost is usually added to improve soil quality. Fertiliser pellets are also added to provide extra nutrition. The seedlings are planted out and given a good soaking with the hose to ensure the soil around the future root zone is drenched.
Finally a permanent hose watering system is laid out which allows each plant to get a daily watering.
The sun is guaranteed in North Africa, so the BCN Critical XXL Autoflower plants produced some large blooms with dense, hard buds. The quality was significantly higher than the usual mountain-grown weed, and needless to say was popular and in demand.
