One great advantage of growing a cutting is that you get an identical genetic copy of the parent.
So if you, or one of your friends, have a particularly outstanding cannabis plant you can give the same identical genetics to other growers.
Often this is done if the plant has special qualities, for example a unique terpene profile or a particularly high THC level. Or it may be because the plant shows beautiful colours, or has exceptionally heavy yields. There are many reasons why a grower can consider a particular plant simply too special to lose.
Professional cannabis breeders are one group of people that regularly take cuttings from their cannabis plants. Serious amateur growers, especially those within a growing community, also love to keep a collection of cuttings from their best mother plants.

Disadvantages of growing cannabis from clones
To keep your collection of prize cuttings, you will need a dedicated room under permanent veg conditions. That means 18-24 hours of daily light.
Many serious growers will use a light with a blue dominant spectrum, this is preferred for cannabis plants in vegetative growth.
You will also need a separate room for flowering your plants, the bloom room would need to use 12 hours of daily light, often with a red dominant spectrum.
The need to have 2 separate rooms, one for bloom and one for veg, is what usually deters most growers from keeping a mother/cuttings room.
One other issue which causes some growers to dislike cannabis cuttings is the possibility of disease.
When you get a cutting from someone else’s grow room you may also be getting pests and diseases as well. This can be almost impossible to detect simply by looking at the clone.
If the cutting does carry pests or diseases it can infect and ruin everything else growing in your grow room.

Cannabis seeds are a convenient way to grow cannabis, especially if you don’t have any cannabis growing friends to give you any clones.
Cannabis seeds can be bought online and arrive within a day or two. They can be germinated and growing in next to no time.
Many cannabis growers always keep a stash of their favourite cannabis seeds in the fridge.
The fridge is the best place to store cannabis seeds when you are not using them, just keep them in a dry, dark place in the fridge and they should remain viable for many years. When growing from cannabis seeds you don’t need to have separate veg and bloom rooms.
Other advantages of growing cannabis seeds
